Feelings

When I was in high school, my dad always reminded me that when I was feeling down … to hold on tight because soon, I’d be feeling up again. And when I was feeling up … to hold on because soon, sure as sure, I’d feel down again.

It’s a good thing to remember. Because, indeed, feelings are transitory. And feelings, though they often feel heavy and overwhelming, are flouncy. And flimsy. And likely to take a turn.

This last week, I had a very feelings oriented week. Up and down. Down and up. Cried so hard my eyes hurt. Good thing I remembered the words of my father and had enough sense to ride it out.

Feelings cannot be trusted.

But God can be trusted.

“Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”

(… the words of my Father.)
