dear daughters: 5 things to pray for your new husband
dear daughters … is a series where I talk to my girls about stuff. I want to invite you to talk about stuff too.
Here you are about to get married. Just days away. Your dad and I are so excited ~ and enormously relieved. He answered our prayers when he brought this guy your way.
You two love each other. That’s clear. And that love will get you a long way. But after nearly thirty years of marriage to your dad, I’ve come to realize prayer is equally important to the love we share.
So I want to ask you to pray because prayer is the key to keeping a right focus on God and the man you love. Here are just a few things straight from the Bible that you can start praying for your (nearly) new husband.
1. Pray he would always love Jesus more than he loves you.
And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. Mark 12:30
2. Ask God to give him an undivided heart.
Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
Psalm 86:11
3. Ask God to make him a mighty man. Able to see clearly, lead consistently and fight for your marriage and your family.
From the Gadites there came over to David in the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men trained for war, who could handle shield and spear, and whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the gazelles on the mountains. 1 Chronicles 12:8
4. Pray he would love God’s word, read it consistently and remember it.
I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word. Psalm 119:16
5. Pray he would hate sin and run from it.
Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You. Psalm 119:11
Okay, dear daughter, there are a just a few. Know your dad and I pray for your marriage daily. And that we love you both.
